Spring 2010:
CEP 840: Teaching Exceptional Children & Youth in General Education
Instructors: S. Peters, K. Biehl, and R. Cutler
- In this course, I learned strategies for including students with special needs with the general education population. I also learned how federal and state laws stress the importance of inclusion. One of the main objectives of this course was to identify a plan on how to get my special education students at the time included with their general education peers. Click here see the plan that developed.
Summer 2010:
CEP 841: Classroom Management in the Inclusive Classroom
Instructor: T. Mariage
- In this class I learned about behavioral interventions and strategies for special education students. I worked on creating a school-wide positive behavioral support program. I walked away with a complete toolbox of strategies and interventions for behaviorally challenged students. Click here to see an example of an application activity that I completed for this course.
CEP 882: Socio-Emotional Development of School-Age Youth
Instructor: C. Okolo
- This course looked at various aspects of special education students and laws. I learned about appropriate accommodations and modifications, and the importance of inclusion. One assignment I had to complete was finding an electronic literacy tool that my students could benefit from, and write a review about it. Click here to view that assignment.
ED 800: Concepts in Educational Inquiry
Instructor: S. Weiland
- In this class I had to read and analyze a variety of texts that discussed the concept of educational inquiry. I had to critique various forms of educational inquiry and decide what was useful to me. Click here to view my final exam which explains my opinions on educational inquiry.
Spring 2011:
CEP 842: Instruction in Inclusive Classrooms
Instructor: C. Okolo
- In this class, I learned about differentiating instruction so that all students can be successful. I also learned about the concept of using universal design while lesson planning. The idea is to get all students engaged and participating in the lesson and expected ideas. Click here to view a UDL unit plan that I created as part of this course.
Fall 2011:
CEP 802: Developing Positive Attitudes Toward Learning

- This class was all about student motivation. I learned the value of intrinsic motivation vs. extrinsic motivation. I also learned how to complete a motivational assessment on my students. Click here to see one that I completed on a current student at that time. I also wrote a critique of using rewards in education, click here to view it.
Spring 2012:
TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Instructor: G. Troia
- In this course I learned a variety of teaching methods that could accommodate the different needs of individual literacy learners. The culminating assignment for this course was that I had to chose I student that I was working with and increase reading comprehension through research based practices. Click here to view that assignment.
Summer 2012:
TE 843: Secondary Reading Assessment & Instruction
Instructor: D. Hartman
- This course gave me several tools to successfully teach language and literacy to secondary students. I was required to look at the literacy practices of my students in and out of school. Once I established that, I had to build on it to create a lesson plan to engage my students in a literature lesson by incorporating their interests. Click here to view my literacy inquiry project.
Spring 2013:
